Stakeholder Update - December 16, 2025
The AESO has updated the Tariff Redesign schedule for 2026. Please refer to the respective AESO Engage pages for specific workstream schedules. Where it makes sense, we’ll consolidate engagements for multiple workstreams to maximize time and efficiency for stakeholders.
The “Connection Costs Allocation & Investment Policy” workstream has been renamed to “Tariff Connection Obligations” to reflect the broader scope including determination of costs allocated at time of connection, investment policy, connection alternatives, substation fraction review, billing and contracting for multiple points of connection and post-energization obligations in the potential case of stranded costs.
Additionally, in response to stakeholder questions about where and when certain topics will be discussed, we have posted a guide that indicates which workstream(s) where certain topics will be developed and discussed.
Purpose
To align the ISO tariff with changes to transmission and market policy so that clear and stable price signals provide investors with certainty and information needed for effective decision-making.
Focus: revising how transmission and ancillary services costs are recovered, how market participants can obtain system access service, and the costs to connect.
The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) deadline for the AESO to file the bulk and regional rate updates is January 31, 2027, with new rates expected to take effect in 2029 following the AUC review process.
