REM Operations: Inputs, Real-Time Market Clearing, and Prices - Now Available!

This course provides an overview of the core real-time market processes that determine dispatch and pricing outcomes in the Restructured Energy Market (REM), including:

  • Real-Time Offers and Bids
  • Co-Optimizing Energy and R30 through Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED)
  • Alberta Load Price (ALP)
  • R30 Demand Curve
These courses can be accessed through Workday. Additional courses will be added as they become available.

Introduction

We are committed to a robust transition support for all Market Participants to the Restructured Energy Market (REM) implementation. This will include clear communication, supporting resources and materials to understand and adopt changes, and detailed training to transition systems where required.

Through the transition, Market Participants will have opportunity to provide input, so we understand your implementation requirements and operational impacts.

Your feedback will help us identify readiness needs, prioritize engagement activities, and ensure that our approach to Market Participant readiness addresses your organization’s key concerns.

Engagement opportunities for REM implementation will be shared with stakeholders as they are determined.

    March 18, 2026

    Aaron Engen, AESO CEO, presented at IPPSA and provided a high-level view to the work underway at the AESO to prepare for a successful market transition, the planning and timeline for IT system testing and implementation, and how the AESO will support market participants to prepare and transition successfully to the new market.     March 4, 2026

    We will be hosting a full-day hybrid stakeholder session on Tuesday, March 24 for Market Participants to learn more about the AESO’s high-level plan guiding the work and preparations required for the successful implementation of the REM.

    This session is intended for those responsible for leading and coordinating their organization’s REM implementation readiness across operations, technology/systems compliance and change management. Ideal participants will include the project manager and/or technical lead overseeing implementation planning activities.

    Due to space constraints, only one representative per organization may register to attend in-person. Others can join virtually and will have opportunities to participate and ask questions.

    Session Objectives:

    By the end of this session, Market Participants will:

    1. Understand the high-level plan and key milestones required for REM implementation including system updates.
    2. Gain visibility into the major changes to systems and impact of those changes.
    3. Understand the AESO’s approach and supports for enabling the transition to the new market.
    4. Understand the expectations of Market Participants to support their own readiness activities.
    5. Understand the AESO’s overall engagement plan for the ISO Manuals and Information Documents related to the REM ISO rules, and further review of the REM ISO rules.
