Purpose
In June 2023 we held our inaugural Stakeholder Symposium to share AESO key priorities as well as address reliability and affordability challenges posed by a rapidly evolving electricity system. We gained valuable insight and connections which highlighted the importance of frequent touchpoints with our senior stakeholders. Therefore, we followed with our second Stakeholder Symposium that took place on November 30, 2023, and continued these conversations.

Transformation in our sector continues to unfold at an unprecedented pace. Novel approaches will be required by leadership teams across the electricity sector to advance complex challenges the industry is facing.
On June 27, 2023, the AESO livestreamed its inaugural Stakeholder Symposium, which brought together members of the AESO executive team and their counterparts from industry to discuss the AESO’s current key priorities and how these priorities are inter-related, as well as how various AESO-led initiatives are intended to address the reliability and affordability challenges posed by a rapidly evolving electricity system.
This symposium provided an important forum for AESO leadership to discuss critical issues facing the electricity sector with their industry counterparts. These novel approaches are important for continuing to foster the innovation and collaboration necessary for industry to collectively tackle the significant challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Topics covered will include actions to improve frequency response, the AESO’s approach to Most Severe Single Contingency (MSSC), Montana-Alberta Tie Line (MATL) HVDC converter next steps, the launch of Market Pathways to evolve our market, and key updates on transmission system projects, our long-term transmission plan, and the new connection process.
