Supplemental High Complexity | Stakeholder Feedback | July 3 - July 24, 2026
Purpose
The Reliability Standards Sync Up Project aims to modernize the Alberta Reliability Standards. Following the Reliability Standards Discussion Group & Reliability Standards Sync Up Project Kick-Off session and the Stakeholder Feedback period, the AESO initially categorized the relevant Reliability Standards into two groups based on complexity: medium and high. The AESO has completed consultation on the medium complexity standards and filed a Forwarding Notice with the Alberta Utilities Commission on June 30, 2026. On January 16, 2026, the AESO informed stakeholders that it will release a third package, titled Milestone 3, in March 2026 to support the adoption of some standards currently under review at FERC.
The AESO initially included BAL-007-AB-1 and CIP-002-AB-7 in the High Complexity Sync Up Standards package. However, FERC subsequently approved updates to these two standards. On March 19, 2026, it approved CIP-002-8 and on March 26, 2026 it approved an errata (BAL-007-1.1) to correct capitalization errors. As a result, the AESO is releasing a supplemental high complexity package.
The AESO is seeking written comments from Stakeholders on the proposed new BAL-007-AB-1.1 and amended CIP-002-AB-8 supplemental high complexity standards. The AESO values feedback and invites all interested stakeholders to provide their comments on or before July 24, 2026. All responses will be shared in their original format on AESO Engage.
